The 34-year old British crack climbing phenom has known about the line for a decade but lacked the confidence that it was protectable or possible. Jacopo Larcher made the first ascent after years of attempts, reigniting Pearson&#8217;s interest in claiming an ascent, but the birth of his son Arthur forced patience.<\/p>\n<p>Pearson finally got out and spent a few days battling wet conditions to work the moves out, with the bouldery finish thwarted him; he prevailed to gain the second ascent on his seventh go.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_41080\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-41080\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-41080\" src=\"https:\/\/gearinstitute.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Tribe_05_Credit_Caroline_Ciavaldini-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"James Pearson on Tribe\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gearinstitute.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Tribe_05_Credit_Caroline_Ciavaldini-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gearinstitute.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Tribe_05_Credit_Caroline_Ciavaldini-675x900.jpg 675w, https:\/\/gearinstitute.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Tribe_05_Credit_Caroline_Ciavaldini-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/gearinstitute.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Tribe_05_Credit_Caroline_Ciavaldini-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/gearinstitute.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Tribe_05_Credit_Caroline_Ciavaldini-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-41080\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: Caroline Ciavaldini<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Neither Larcher nor Pearson assigned a grade to the route that could have been bolted as a sport climb. &#8220;For me, Tribe is by far the hardest series of moves I have ever done on a trad-route, and it\u2019s a real miracle that the thing is actually possible on gear,&#8221; said Pearson, &#8220;It\u2019s rare to find a piece of rock compact enough to make a series of sustained hard movements, but with just enough decent gear placements.&#8221; Pearson also stated that the avoidance of bolts made the king line even more special;\u00a0 &#8220;Mother Nature gave us everything that we need, right here&#8230; an amazing line, a cool series of holds, and gear placements, right where you need them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A blog from Pearson about his Tribe experience will be released on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wildcountry.com\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wild Country&#8217;s site<\/a> in the coming days.
